Depended on the date, in the beginning, they were separated into orderly groups as they got off the trains, women, children, old men and invalids in one line and the rest in the other, greeted by an SS Officer, many time a doctor would do the division. The line leading to the showers for delousing had their heads shaved before entering. The 2nd line, or 'slave worker' line had their head shaved later. The shaving dehumanized the prisoners. During the last months of the war when the ovens were going 24 hours a day, there was no formality, the tracks were extended directly to the gas chambers.
