One story is that the government, after seeing the panic caused by Orson Welle's radio broadcast of an invasion of Martians in the 1930's, decided that a revelation of contact with aliens would bring about widespread panic, collapse of religions and economy, and a de-stabilized society in general During the early 1950s (some time after the Roswell incident), Curtis Lemay and Eisenhower formed a committee of top scientists, military and national security folks (progeny of the Men in Black), their task, to decide what to do about alien contact....but that is all speculation.

Now days, however, i would suspect that the public, in general, can accept the truth...but that's just me.

Lee had 3 corps commanders at gettysburg: Longstreet, AP Hill, and Ewell. All failed in their respective rolls, so it's hard to say they "aided" him... unless you're using the term loosely like 'aid-de-camp."

Ewell 'blew it' on the first day by not taking the high ground, which would've won the battle.

AP Hill's divisions engaged the federals on the first day, before the whole of Lee's army was in the field, contrary to Lee's orders.

Longstreet wanted to flank the Union left and attack the supply trains and artillery park, but was over-ruled. His slow performance in taking the Round Tops and his poorly coordinated attack on Cemetery Ridge did not 'aid' Lee at all.

Bottom line, Lee was NOT aided by his Corps commanders at Gettysburg.
